School Closures
We recognize that any decision to close either the Morven or Wentworth campuses has a significant impact on the entire Collingwood community.
The Morven and Wentworth campuses will not be closed unless circumstances make it impossible for the school to safely operate or transport students and staff. This might include power failures, weather related problems or other circumstances.Ultimately, the decision as to whether it is safe for a child to come to, or be at school is up to a parent or guardian.
Closures
Before School
Closures before school starts are communicated to you no earlier than 6:30AM. Situations and conditions (transportation, weather, power) may change significantly within a couple of hours. Decisions are made as soon as reliable information is available.
During School
Decisions on an early end to the school day, if necessary, are based on the school's ability to ensure student and staff safety. These decisions are communicated to parents and families by the best means available (website, email or phone call).
How will I know the school is closed?
Information about school closures is publicized using:
Website: updates will be posted on the front page of the school's website, the Parents' page and the Students' page.
News Media:
Radio: News 1130, CKNW 980, CBC Radio
Television: Global TV, CTV
Do not call the school directly. The school's website is the most reliable way to receive information about school closures because media reports are often delayed.
