An endowment fund is a long-term investment where donated contributions are preserved in perpetuity. Only the generated income supports a stated mission—in this case, the Sophia Andrews Scholarship—ensuring perpetual financial support for future generations.

Managed by the Collingwood School Foundation, all endowed funds adhere to the Foundation’s Endowment and Investment Policies. The Foundation’s objective is to protect donated capital, provide dependable income, and maintain the fund’s real value over time. Funds are invested with a long-term mandate to achieve returns exceeding disbursement rates, expenses, and inflation. It is recognized that this objective will not be attained every year because of market fluctuations, but it is expected to be attained over a period of time.

The current disbursement rate is 3.5%, calculated using a rolling three-year average of the fund’s year-end market value. This rate considers CRA mandates and the need for stable recipient funding. The Board reviews this rate annually to ensure it remains appropriate. By preserving the original gift while utilizing its earnings, the Foundation provides consistent support for deserving scholarship recipients.
