Soccer Cavs Advance To Zone Championship Game
David Speirs

The senior girls soccer team defeated the Tupper Tigers in a penalty shoot-out to advance to the Vancouver Sea-To-Sky Championship game next Tuesday.  This win also guaranteed the Cavs a berth in the BC AA Championships later this month in Kamloops.

The Tigers were the #1 ranked Vancouver public school team and were previously undefeated so this was a huge win for the Cavs.  Here is a game report from Coach Mulock:

The Cavs are headed to Provincials! In a regular season full of hard work, our Senior Girls saved their most exciting performance for when it mattered most. Facing an undefeated Charles Tupper team, the energy was high from the very first whistle.

The game was a total battle. Tupper took an early lead after a small mistake on our end, but the girls didn't let that get them down. Tavia S. found the back of the net during a scramble in the box to tie it up right before halftime. The second half stayed just as close, but things got tense when Tupper scored a great volley with only three minutes left to play.

Most teams might have folded, but the Cavs rallied immediately. We sent a perfect through ball to our striker, who beat the defense and scored a clinical goal to tie the game again. After a scoreless overtime, it all came down to penalty kicks. Thanks to some clutch shooting and a huge performance in net by our keeper, Naomi, we secured the win.

We are so proud of this team for punching their ticket to the Provincial Championships in Kamloops! We hope to see everyone out this Tuesday as we play STA for the Zone Championship. Go Cavs!

After their huge win over Tupper in the zone playoffs, the Cavs received the North Shore Banner that they had won the week before.
