Senior Cavs Post Hat-Trick Of Wins
David Speirs

This past Tuesday was a big day for our senior teams.  The field hockey, volleyball and boys' soccer teams were all in action in big North Shore league matches.

The field hockey team took to the field against a tough Carson Graham team.  Neither team was particularly happy to being playing on field turf instead of Rutledge Field, but the Cavs were not to denied as they scored two first-half goals to build a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Collingwood were good, but perhaps not as sharp as Coaches Underwood and Taylor would have liked.  Nevertheless, it was a solid win and the Cavs are now 2-0 in league play.

A half-hour after the field hockey tip-off, the boys' soccer team took to the field for their huge 'derby' match against Mulgrave.  This is always a fun game for both teams as the rivalry between the two schools is strong.

The Cavs were coming off their silver-medal performance at the ISA Championships and were perhaps a bit overconfident after Mulgrave's poor performance at this tournament.  This lack of focus was evident early as the Cavs squandered multiple opportunities early in the game.  This allowed the Titans to work themselves into the game.  As it became obvious that Collingwood was not going to stroll to a victory, Mulgrave's confidence grew.

The Cavs opened the scoring with a Lucas R goal off a scramble in front of the Titans' goal.  This was the only goal of the first half.

In the second half, the Cavs seemed incapable of figuring out the Mulgrave offside trap and the touch judge's arm looked tired from raising his flag so much.  When Mulgrave scored to make it 1-1, the game seemed destined to go to penalties.

However, Collingwood stormed back and Armaan V blasted a shot into the top left-hand corner to give the Cavs the win.

Later that evening, the volleyball team played their home opener against West Van.  Coaches Jolliffe, Mulock and Ross have been thrilled with their team's skill and hard work in practice and couldn't wait to see their squad in action.

The team did not disappoint as they played some tremendous volleyball as they defeated the Highlanders in two games straight.

The Cavs will head to Coquitlam tomorrow for some tough competition in the Douglas College tournament.
