Junior Rugby Cavs Win 4th Straight North Shore Title
David Speirs

The junior rugby team captured the school's fourth straight North Shore Championship with a comprehensive victory over Carson Graham yesterday afternoon.

Both the Cavs and the Eagles entered the game undefeated in North Shore action.  Collingwood had won the West Division and defeated Argyle in their semi-final while Carson had won the East Division and defeated Rockridge in their semi-final.  It had the makings of a great game between two of the premier rugby programs in BC.

However, the Cavs came out of the gate so quickly that the Eagles never truly recovered.  Harrison S scored the game's opening try and this was followed up quickly by a try from Liam D.  Both of these were converted by Connor D to give Collingwood a quick 14-0 lead.

Carson responded with a try of their own to make it 14-5 and it looked like they might claw themselves back into the game.  Those thoughts were quickly squashed when Daniel S and Sebastian M scored tries.  Once again, Connor converted from the tee and the Cavs went into halftime up 28-5.

Any hopes of a comeback by Carson ended almost right away when Griffin L burst through the Eagles defence on a little pop from Marcus S.  While Griffin was eventually run-down after a 60m run, a quick ruck led to a Finn J try.

Tommy S, Finny S and Hugo B each scored in the second half and the Cavs left the field with a 54-12 victory.

Collingwood will now face St. George's in the Vancouver Sea-To-Sky Championship game next Wednesday.  Both teams have already qualified for the BC Junior Championships held in White Rock later this month.

Connor D passes to Marcus S in a game against Earl Marriott earlier this year.  The improvement in Collingwood's backline play was key to their victory yesterday.
