Under cloudy skies the Collingwood cross-country team had its first meet of the season at Ambleside. The team has been training well for the past few weeks and the hard work has paid off!
Our Junior Girls team announced their presence by winning their division. Traditional Cross Country powerhouses Handsworth, Sutherland and Windsor didn't have strong enough teams to top our squad. Sadie B placed 3rd, Asha H placed 11th, Elsa C placed 12th, and Maia B placed 23rd. Our top four runners scored enough points to place well ahead of the second place team.
Caitlyn B placed 10th amongst Grade 8's and Ayla O had a successful first race for Collingwood. We are hoping to qualify a Junior Girls team for Provincials and are off to a great start.
The Junior Boys had a strong start to the season as well. Derek Y placed 4th in the Grade 8 Division and 19th overall amongst all the Junior Boys. Lucas L, Rory M, Oliver M and Mark K all placed well in the biggest division at the meet.
Our Senior Girls were well represented by Abby W and Maddy G. Both athletes left everything on the race course and, despite a last minute change to the distance, adapted well and paced their way to a strong finish.
Congratulations to all our racers and to those that have been working hard in training. Our next league race is on October 8th at Rice Lake.

Asha H sprints to the finish line.

Derek Y finished 4th in the Grade 8 boys' race.
