New Family Summer Buddy Program

We are looking for current Collingwood families who are interested in volunteering to be a Buddy Family!

What is this program?

New families to Collingwood are matched with an existing "Buddy Family" at Collingwood who has a child in the same grade.

Buddy Families are asked to connect with their New Family by email or phone, and perhaps meet for a coffee or a small get together over the summer (play at the beach, etc), so that new students may have an opportunity to meet a child in their grade prior to the first day of school.

This is a terrific opportunity to give back to our wonderful school, by helping to make the transition for new families a welcoming and memorable experience. It is also a chance for your children to make new connections, and to really make a positive difference for another child.

Time Commitment: 1-2+ hours in July-August, timing is completely flexible to suit your schedule.

Role Overview: Buddy Families will be sent the contact information and details of a new family, to connect by email or phone over the summer. It is asked that Buddy Families offer to meet in person at least once over the summer so that the new student has the opportunity to meet a child in their grade, and the parent(s) has a chance to connect with a current family.

We will be matching families over the summer. We are very excited to build a highly connected parent community and we thank you for your time to welcome and help our newest families with our New Family Summer Buddy Program!

If you are interested in volunteering as a Buddy Family, please register below:

Stay tuned for our 2019-2020 sessions!

Contact Nicole McLeod at cwconnection@mycw.org if you have any questions.

Here's what some of our parents (moms and dads!) have had to say about this new club:

"I was hesitant at first thinking it wouldn’t be “enough” of a workout for me but was pleasantly surprised by the individualized challenge"

"It forced me outside of my comfort zone which is being outside in the rain." (only sometimes! :)
"I love meeting other parents, being outdoors and the fact that I can be part of this group even if I am power walking instead of running."

"I noticed some people had injuries and some were at different levels. Karl (the instructor) easily modified their workouts. For example, some could not do the push-ups on the picnic bench so he had them do lunges instead. Some could sprint hills while others hiked flat trails." So great that everyone can join regardless of fitness level or injury!

"I really enjoy connecting with the parents and getting to know more about my children’s peer groups."

"It’s so much easier for me to hear news by word of mouth than read all the emails from Collingwood."

"More closer to nature, more fresh air to breath, and more persistent of me. Let's go!"

"At first I thought the price was too much, knowing I could not make every Wednesday. Now that I’ve tried it and love it so much that I try to schedule my appointments around Wednesday mornings so I don’t miss out on one!"

"It’s a nice way to see our gorgeous area."

Book Clubs

This is another new PC initiative this year, as we work to find new ways for parents to connect! Rich and interesting conversation can spring from books on a wide range of topics, and it is a wonderful way to learn about and get to know others!

Book clubs will run in the day or evening, and will generally be set up with parents in the same grade.

Please fill out the form below and include your child(ren)’s grade(s) and whether you would be interested in a daytime or evening club (or either). Parents will then be connected, with the suggestions to run meetings once per month, rotating the hosting house between members. Book suggestions and templates for organizing a book club will be provided. Groups will be limited to approximately 12 people unless otherwise requested.

Contact Nicole McLeod at cwconnection@mycw.org with any questions.

The Unishop gives Collingwood families the opportunity to donate gently worn uniforms that their child/children have outgrown and to purchase those extra pieces you know your child/children might lose or misplace during the school year.

Our team of dedicated volunteers and “personal shoppers” is knowledgeable and will be on hand to help you find the right item and size for your child.

At the Unishop, we pride ourselves in selling high quality garments at a fair price that is often a fraction of the cost of new uniforms. In cases where donated items are not in a condition to be resold or are no longer part of the uniform policy, they will be donated to appropriate charitable organizations.

  • UniShop takes ALL Collingwood logo'd and tartan pieces (whether it is wearable or not).
  • If items can't be resold we make sure they are donated overseas. The company that we use will take wearable pieces to Africa to those in need. If an item isn't wearable they recycle the fabric. Some items may also be donated for the school play for costumes, as well as pieces to make the American Girl Doll outfits.
  • As an important part of Parents’ Council, the money that UniShop earns goes back to the school and helps make it possible for our kids to enjoy the amazing extras that make a Collingwood education so exceptional.

Teacher Appreciation Lunches

2019 Persian New Year Celebration

Celebrating Persian New Year: Norooz and the Haftseen at Wentworth Campus

Every year, millions of people worldwide celebrate Persian New Year, or Norooz. Norooz marks the end of the old year and the beginning of a new one, and it occurs on the day of the vernal equinox. More accurately, the new year begins the second the equinox does — so, not just at the stroke of midnight. Usually, the equinox happens from March 19 to 21; this year, Norooz is approximately 3pm PST on March 20. People start getting ready for Norooz about three weeks before the actual date. The centrepiece of the festivities turn on the “Haftseen,” or a collection of items that symbolize a different hope for the new year. The following provides a great synopsis of the Haftseen, including its meaning and influences: Visit here.

This year Collingwood School is delighted to display its very own Haftseen in the lobby of the Wentworth Campus. The Haftseen will be on display next week from March 11 -15th. We encourage all kids and families to stop by and have a look at the beautiful spread which embodies the rich Persian tradition.
