Junior School

Our Junior School Campus encompasses a comprehensive educational experience, where every child is valued and nurtured as an individual. As educators it is our mission to provide an inspiring environment that supports students in becoming empowered learners. Through a competency-based curriculum and in close collaboration with parents we celebrate each child’s unique contributions.

WELCOME TO WENTWORTH: COLLINGWOOD’S JUNIOR SCHOOL

The early years of a child’s education are foundational in developing a love of learning, care and compassion for others and an open and creative mind. Our team of dynamic educators support and inspire students in a nurturing, positive and stimulating environment.

With a commitment to Forward Focused learning, we integrate hands-on and experiential learning experiences across the grades. Children are encouraged and supported by their teachers to develop and expand foundational literacy and numeracy skills across a variety of subject areas. We offer a multitude of co-curricular activities and innovative programming where students can pursue their passions, and we partner with students to design and personalize learning goals, empowering individual academic growth.

And equally important, we prioritize the social and emotional health and wellbeing of students and are committed to a collaborative Junior School community where everyone feels welcomed, understood and valued.

Our Approach

Character Education

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus CHARACTER, this is the goal of true education.” - Martin Luther King Jr.

In the words of Martin Luther King Jr, character development is one of the fundamental goals of education. At Wentworth, we strive to teach character intentionally in all that we do.

Unbounded

We know innovative programs will prepare students for multiple pathways in a complex world. In Grades 4-7, Unbounded Learning gives our students the time and space to imagine, explore, collaborate, create and strengthen their learning across and beyond the curriculum.

Inclusive Education

At Collingwood School, inclusion is an attitude and approach where all students in our community feel a sense of belonging. By teaching to diversity, we create positive learning environments that facilitate the full membership, participation, and learning of all students.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

At Collingwood School, we aim to foster an inclusive and equitable environment that embraces diversity. Through education and courage, we are committed to cultivating a pluralistic environment as we work together to remove barriers so that every person feels welcomed, understood and valued.

Co-curriculars to deepen learning

At the Junior School, a variety of co-curricular activities are offered for students. Spanning the Four Strands of Academics, Arts, Athletics and Service Learning, co-curricular offerings are a great way for students to explore the world around them and to discover personal passions. Students are also encouraged to explore leadership opportunities where they work on the life-long skills of listening and collaboration.

Grade 6 Teacher

Our students are so lucky at Collingwood. They have access to so many opportunities and specialist teachers. I love watching them grow and learn.

My favourite part of school is art because I get to do fun things and explore my abilities.
