The robotics team had a successful day at their first competition of the season this Saturday. We had teams from grade 8, 9 , 10, and 11. Our Grade 10 team came in with a well-designed, reliable robot and programmed like wild men all day to outmaneuver their opponents round after round. They came away with a 9th in the round robin play and made it to the quarter finals in the elimination rounds. Our Grade 8 team started the day with a robot who's upper half was mysteriously immobile when they uncrated it, so they tore it apart and quickly built and bolted on a simpler mechanical arm. They then made it to the elimination round as team captains and came 5th in the skills competition; an unprecedented accomplishment for a team in their first ever competition. The grades 9 and 11 teams had dependable, well-functioning robots and were solid contributors all day.
