Highlights from Earth Week
Spring has sprung and Earth Week was in full bloom at Collingwood!
Across all grades at both campuses, teachers were eager and motivated to integrate Earth Week studies into their curriculums.
Students, parents and faculty kicked off Earth Week with an Ambleside beach clean-up.
Grades 1, 2 and 7 engaged in planting in the Wentworth garden and greenhouse
Grades 2 & 3 took on a zero waste lunch challenge
Grade 7 took on the task of calculating their ecological footprint
Grades 8 & 9 engaged in service trips that had them working in local community gardens, beach clean-ups, repairing North Shore trails and ivy pulls at Stanley Park and in West Vancouver.
Grade 9 Explore worked on building and planting in Morven garden.
Grade 11 examined the issues of food production, electricity and the environment and plant biology
Grade 12 Chemistry had discussions about lithium mining for batteries
Huge thanks to all of our amazing teachers for their efforts and we encourage all parents to keep the momentum alive at home by asking your kids about all of the wonderful things they learned this week.
".....the care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy and, after all, our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it, and to foster its renewal, is our only legitimate hope." ~ Wendell Berry
