At our Morven Campus, we celebrated Earth Week, April 18-22. Over the entire week, there was an online fundraiser selling honey from Chilliwack for Bee Loved, a Round Square service project that donates a beehive and training to South African people to help them make and sell honey. On Wednesday, we had our second annual Sustainability Fair. This included companies that value, practice and teach sustainability from Vancouver and provincial and national organizations. On Thursday, to help Collingwood develop their Environmental Sustainability Plan, we invited students to complete a survey to hear their thoughts about sustainability within our school. On Friday, to wrap the week up, we hosted a blue and green dress down day and students were asked to bring in $2 to support OneTree, an organization that will plant trees. The Sustainability Council is asking OneTree to plant the trees in the areas in BC devastated by the forest fires and flooding last year. We also had a guest speaker, Sophia Yang, join us over zoom to speak about the impact and solutions to fast fashion. To end the week, we took a picture on the field with Grade 8’s and 9’s spelling out “I Love Earth.” The Sustainability Council hopes that everyone enjoyed Earth Week and continues to #InvestInOurPlanet!
