Collingwood Athlete Profiles - Lilah and Lochlan
Collingwood Athlete Profiles - Lilah and Lochlan

These are obviously interesting times.  Sport Writers across the world have literally nothing to write about.  Clearly, this is also true for a certain Collingwood Athletic Director who is used to bragging about the student-athletes he loves to cheer on every week.

However, we're not going to let a lack of games stop this sports blog.  We're going to continue to profile Collingwood's top student-athletes.  We're starting with Grade 12's who by all rights should be starring in Term 3 sports right now.  Please enjoy learning more about these amazing young men and women:

LILAH SAWERS

SPORTS PLAYED AT COLLINGWOOD:

Field Hockey and Basketball (Grade 10)

FAVOURITE COLLINGWOOD SPORTS MOMENT(S):

Winning the provincials in 2018 and 2019. It was amazing to see all our hard work pay off, especially in 2018 when we beat Crofton (our rivals) 5-0 on their own turf.

Winning the ISA's in 2018 and 2019. It was so cool how the team really came together to beat Crofton (2018) and Shawnigan (2019). Our strength came from our togetherness.

Coming second at the Bridgman Cup in 2018. Even though we didn't come first, it was an incredible feeling to have made it to the finals where we played Handsworth.

(Editor's Note: The Bridgman Cup brings together the best AA and AAA teams in the province. For a AA team to make the final is a huge deal!)

SPORTS PLAYED AT COLLINGWOOD:

 Basketball, Cross-Country, Rugby (Grade 8 and 9)

FAVOURITE COLLINGWOOD SPORTS MOMENT(S):

Winning the 2020 Cav Classic against Mulgrave.  We had a serious rivalry with Mulgrave and they had beat us by 20 points in the league game.  We were only up by 5 points at half, but we ended up winning by 20 points and everyone got into the game.  It was great celebrating with my teammates. (Editor's Note – Lochlan had 36 points in the final and was the Tournament MVP.)

Making the BC Championships when I was in Grade 10. It was my first full year on the senior team. We had worked super hard all season and we were viewed as the underdogs going into the season. As a team we proved almost every team wrong. As a Grade 10 starter I was able to help lead the team to getting to provincials which was a huge achievement.

Senior's Night – It was a great end to this season and super-emotional for me because the coaches have put so much into the program and I got to thank them for everything.
