The senior rugby team scored ten tries in a victory over Lord Byng yesterday. Since the teams were playing three 20-minute periods and experimenting with lineups, converts were not taken. Thus, the Cavs came away with a 50-10 win.
Coaches Speirs, Larisch and Murray were thrilled with this excellent start to the season. The team used its forward strength to neutralize the hard-running Byng forwards. Time and time again, Byng controlled the play for multiple phases only to see the Cavs eventually turn over the ball and spin it wide for glorious long-distance tries.
Cole Young led the way with three tallies. All of them were on long runs where Cole used his great speed and sidestep. Ethan Lucke scored two tries. His first involved a terrific in-and-out move, while his second came after some brilliant handling by his teammates. Joel Abdel-Barr, Lucas Okano, Cam Bruk, Jack Allen and Matt Frost all scored as well.
The Cavs will now face Carson Graham in an exhibition game on Tuesday before playing their first league game against Tupper on Thursday.
Cole Young opened the 2018 season with three terrific tries.
