Academics

Our Senior School (Grades 8-12) offers a diverse array of courses and co-curricular opportunities where students can explore and pursue their passions. We partner with students to reflect, design and personalize their unique learning goals, empowering individual academic growth. Innovative student-centred projects and programs are used to deepen learning and to take advantage of the world class businesses and organizations connected to our community. We value real-world experiences across the Fours Strands—academics, arts, athletics and service—and offer immersive experiential education experiences linked to the curriculum so that our students gain a significant academic advantage that can applied in the real world. Our dedicated University Guidance department leverages relationships with strategic post-secondary institutes, businesses and organization to support students as they explore multiple pathways beyond high school.

Course Selection

Course selection begins in February and continues until the beginning of March each year. We kick-off the process with grade specific parent and student meetings hosted by Campus Administrators, University Guidance Counsellors, and Heads of House teams to outline and review the programs, pathways, and academic options available to students at each grade level. This LINK provides students and parents pertinent course selection materials: Grade 8-12 Course Section Sheets, as well as specific application materials.

Advanced Placement

Collingwood’s commitment to high academic achievement allows students in the graduation programme to take advantage of the many Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered at our school.

The AP curriculum and examination for each of the AP courses is designed by the College Board, and all Collingwood students enrolled in an AP class are required to write the AP examination in May. To learn more about the AP Program, visit the College Board website.

Summer Institute

Collingwood Summer Institute is an opportunity for students to enrich their learning experiences. Students are afforded the opportunity to pursue advancement in a particular subject area or broaden their knowledge within a certain curricular discipline.
