This past weekend, Collingwood hosted the Grade 8 Boys' and Girls' ISA Championships. This was a true basketball extravaganza as there were two 10-team tournaments going on at the same time. There was fantastic energy in the building all weekend long. Collingwood had two girls' teams in the tournament. Both teams played well but found wins hard to come by. The Grade 8 boys fared much better as they won the bronze medal with a solid win over St. George's B. The team also defeated Stratford Hall, but fell to the eventual champions Southridge in their semi-final. Here is a report from Coach Vidic:
The Grade 9 girls' basketball team finished the Vancouver and District Championships with two losses, but they will enter the BC Championships later this week as the #5 seed. Four of the top five provincial seeds competed in V & D Championships so a 4th place finish in that event is nothing to sneeze at for this amazing group of athletes.
It will be the second time in three years that Collingwood has competed in the Grade 9 BC Championships. The current Grade 11 girls finished 10th two years ago. This year's team will open against Vedder Secondary at 12:00 on Thursday at Britannia Secondary in Vancouver. A win will set up yet another game against local rival and #4 seed Argyle.
Here is Coach Fraser's report on the V & D bronze medal game:
The Grade 9 girls' basketball team continued their winning ways with a 31-28 win over the McRoberts Strikers. The Cavs' terrific first half propelled them to victory in the first round of the Vancouver and District playoffs. The team now moves onto the semi-finals today. Here is Coach Fraser's report on the win:
