Lucas Y Sets New Junior Boys' Record At BC Championships

Lucas Y experienced both the joy of victory and the agony of defeat this weekend at the BC Track and Field Championships.

On Friday, he broke the previous record in the Junior Boys' Long-Jump three separate times. He now holds the provincial record at 6.64m. This is an absolutely tremendous accomplishment.

On Saturday, it appeared Lucas was on his way to another gold and possibly another record in the hurdles when he clipped the 8th hurdle and fell. This was absolutely devastating for Lucas, but Coach Burnett was there to console him and remind him that he has two more years to keep setting the BC high school track world on fire.

Collingwood's Track and Field season has finally come to its end. It's always an inexorable victory for the program when the school has kids running as deep into the season as the schedule allows, and that is what happened this year, with five students reaching the provincial track meet.

Beginning on the Track, we celebrate our two 400 meter athletes, Elsa C, and Jordana F. Most impressive about each of these Athletes is they qualified at the provincial level, despite having run the 400 meter less than three times each. Elsa finished 8th overall at the Grade 8 level, while Jordana finished 14th in the province at the Junior level.

In the field, Grade 9 Owen E, finished 11th overall in the Javelin at the junior level, with the second longest throw for a grade 9 at the meet.

Elsewhere, Collingwood's Lucas Y earned his 2nd gold medal in three years taking the top of the podium in the long jump, setting a provincial record in the process.

Lastly, senior Zoe C, in her final time on the track competed as a dual qualifier in both the 800 and the 3000. Representing the school well in her final two races, Zoe would finish 15th overall in the 800 and 19th in the 3000 rounding out another fantastic year of Collingwood track and field.
