James Holm and Brek Ball are currently in Auckland, New Zealand playing for the BC Bears U-18 7's team. The Bears are competing in the Global Youth 7's team which features some of the best young 7's players in the world.
The Bears' squad features a 'whose-who' of the best high school players from BC last year. The majority of those players are now in first year university. James is currently turning heads at U-Vic, which is one of the best programs in Canada. Brek is still at Collingwood, which speaks volumes to his talent level.
The Bears split their opening games. They lost to the Australian national team 55-0 but bounced back to beat the New Zealand Barbarians 17-14. The fact that the Australian Rugby Union sent a national team to this tournament is proof how seriously this tournament is being taken in the rugby world.
James (L) and Brek (R) warm-up prior to their first game against Australia.
Brek in action last year against Robert Bateman. His powerful running and great defence make him a natural 7's player.
James on his way to the opening try in the BC AA Final last year. He would score two more tries to lead Collingwood to the title.
