Madison Mailey is a 2014 Collingwood graduate. She is also an Olympic champion. Madison rowed for the Women's 8, which won Gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Due to the pandemic, these games actually took place in 2021. So like all the athletes in those games, Madison had to put another long year of training before her Olympic dream came true. However, it was all worth it when the exhausted Canadian women crossed the finish line in first-place.
Collingwood is proud to now have a portrait of Madison and a framed singlet hanging proudly just at the top of the stairs that lead to McCord Gym. It is a fitting tribute to Madison who started rowing at Collingwood before moving to Northeastern University, where she excelled and caught the eyes of the Canadian coaches.
Last Thursday, the official unveiling took place with Madison and her mum, dad and husband present. It was a very fun event where the always modest Madison had a chance to reminisce with her old high school coaches and teachers.
