A team of Gr. 10 and Gr. 11 students from Collingwood have placed first in the world in the 2026 MIT Engineering Competition!

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Shinshin W., Dorsa S., Danny R., and Curtis W., who delivered exceptional results in the preliminary round and continued on to advance to the global finals along with seven other teams.

Over the course of two weeks, they developed a presentation focused on a complex global issue, examining post-harvest maize loss in rural Guatemala. Their work required them to integrate knowledge across disciplines and propose thoughtful, practical solutions. Their final presentation was delivered to a panel of professors and graduate students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

This achievement reflects not only academic excellence, but also the ability of our students to collaborate, think critically, and apply their learning to meaningful global challenges.

Engineers Without Borders is a non-profit that partners with people from countries around the globe, and works with them to find solutions that will improve quality of life in their communities. The annual competition is open to high school students around the world.

In 2025, Collingwood student Brian G. won the top honours for Canada.
