Then and Now
Jill Slattery

The year was 1984 and a brand new school had just opened on Morven Dr. in West Vancouver. Collingwood School was the first of its kind on the North Shore – a co-ed, non-denominational independent school that would prepare students for post-secondary and beyond. With only a few hundred students, school life looked a little different back then.

We went into the first-ever School Yearbook, called "The Corvette", and dug up some photos to compare 1984/85 with 2024/25. Some things have really changed, but the foundation of what we do – prepare young people for meaningful lives – has not. Take a look at the photos below to see the difference 40 years makes!

The music program as definitely grown!

The rugby team has gotten stronger!

Pig dissections are still a science class favourite.

The mountains haven't grown, but our school building sure has!

The elementary classroom has also evolved.

A snow day has always been the best day!

Classroom celebrations still bring out the smiles on everyone's faces.

Our first-ever Grade 7 class was significantly smaller than today's.
