28. Grandparents' & Special Friends' Day
Jill Slattery

Every year, students in our Junior School get to invite their grandparents or special friends to school for the morning. It’s a time-honoured tradition that has been happening since at least 1990, and its longevity proves our deep-seated values of connection and community.

Education is not just about what happens in the classroom – it’s also about the people who help shape our students’ lives. Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day celebrates the deep intergenerational connections and the people who nurture, mentor, and support our students.

We’ve heard our special guests remark how touching it was to see how proud their student is of their school work, their classroom, and all the spots on campus where they like to play and interact. Some grandparents were also once Collingwood parents, with their own children, celebrating this event.

Every year, our students get so excited to introduce their loved ones to their friends and teachers – it’s one of the most beloved days of the year, and one that truly reflects the heart of Collingwood.
