When it comes to impressive alumni, Collingwood is particularly well-represented on the world’s athletic stage. It’s no secret our sports program has developed many skilled athletes at some of the highest levels - including the NHL, Team Canada, and more.
Four of our alumni have had the opportunity to compete in the Olympic and Paralympic Games!
Janet McLachlan
Janet McLachlan graduated from Collingwood in 1995 and went on to play basketball for the University of Victoria, winning national championships in 1998 and 2000. After a serious knee injury, she transitioned to wheelchair basketball and was a member of the national team from 2008 to 2016, competing in the 2008 and 2012 Paralympics.
Emily Overholt
Emily Overholt competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics as the breakout star from Team Canada in the 4x200m freestyle relay, which earned her the bronze medal. She graduated from Collingwood just a year earlier and then pursued a Bachelors of Science from UBC. She was also a gold medal-winner in the 2015 PanAm Games.
Madison Mailey
Madison Mailey is a gold-medal rower who competed for Team Canada in the 2020 Tokyo Games. This was the first gold medal for Canada in women’s rowing since the 1996 Olympics – incidentally, the year Madison was born! Madison graduated in 2014 and visited Collingwood again in 2024 to hang her Olympic jersey on the wall at the Morven Campus, cementing her legacy as a proud Cavalier.
Emily Bugeja
Emily Bugeja (Class of 2017) didn’t learn how to kiteboard until 2020 and in 2024, she earned a spot at the Paris Olympics. A skilled sailor, she had a natural talent for kiteboarding and made waves in the 2023 PanAm Games, coming in 6th. She visited the Junior School this past September to welcome students back to class. Her career is just getting started and we can’t wait to see her compete again!
Four Olympians is 40 years is pretty good, if you ask us!
