Gr 8-9 Physical Education
DJ studied at the University of British Columbia and graduated with a Bachelor in Arts. In this degree he majored in 20th century history and minored in philosophy. He also obtained his teaching degree from UBC. Throughout his life, DJ has maintained a passion for competitive sports, specifically team sports. He started to coach basketball for the Real Basketball League and worked with their grade 6/7 provincial teams for a number of years. Towards the end of his undergraduate degree, he coached the grade 8 boys at his old high school Sir Winston Churchill Secondary (Vancouver) . After two successful seasons at this school, DJ aims to help Collingwood achieve new heights in athletics.
Co-Head of Department along with Fiona Morris. Morgan is in her 5th year at Collingwood after graduating from Simon Fraser University with a BA in History and Kinesiology, and her BEd in Curriculum Development. She was a two time CIS National Basketball Champion with Simon Fraser Clan as a player, and once as an assistant coach. She continued her playing career overseas in Germany. Morgan is currently our Sr. Girls Basketball coach, and spent many of her summers working with Basketball BC at the Provincial Team level. She continues to play, but has picked up Netball as well, a sport for which she represents Canada. She currently splits her time between the PE and Socials department.
Co-Head of Department along with Morgan McLaughlin. Fiona Morris graduated from Acadia University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Kinesiology. In 2006 she continued her studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Elementary Education. She represented BC in the National Badminton Circuit and continued to play during her time at University on the Nova Scotia Badminton team. She has a passion for all sports, but plays volleyball, soccer, field hockey and ultimate and is often found coaching volleyball, badminton, basketball and soccer.
Graduated in 1997 from UBC with a B. Hkin. (Honours) and B. Ed. This is his 14th year of teaching. Michael spent two years in Japan teaching English as well as one year in the public school system. Over his tenure here at Collingwood, Michael has taught on both campuses, worked as the Junior Athletic Director and coached a wide variety of sports.
Courtenay Spencer graduated with a double major in Physical Education and Art Education from the University of Victoria. At Collingwood, she can be found bouncing between the two departments. She played volleyball for the University of Victoria, and enjoys coaching it here at Morven. Courtenay recently returned from a year in London where she completed her MA in Art Education. Courtenay enjoys sports and keeping physically active, though a recent stress fracture has confined her to the pool.
Vlada Vidic graduated from the University of British Columbia where he completed his Bachelor of Education with a major in Human Kinetics and a minor in History. In his fifth year at Collingwood, Vlada is bringing his energy and enthusiasm from the key classroom and the basketball court into the PE and Math Department. Vlada enjoys playing basketball and tennis, skiing and has attempted surfing while traveling through Central and South America.
