February 25, 2013 Update

The following construction program is anticipated over the next few weeks: Feb 25th to Mar 9th

The contractor anticipates completion of all detailed excavation except for the entrance ramp to the parked. Excavation for the elevator foundation, installation of the forms and concrete pour is also planned for the elevator shaft. Construction of all concrete footings is nearing completion. The contractor has installed the perimeter concrete walls on the west side and continues the construction on the north and south walls of the foundation. Installation of formwork, reinforcing steel and rough in electrical continues for walls and columns towards the east.

A small portion of the parking level one (P1) slab on grade is anticipated to be poured. Preparation of the next 10,000 square foot P1 slab is under way with all in ground utility installations (internal storm drainage system, electrical conduits, etc.) underway. Slab pour days are unpredictable at this time as this work is weather dependent. Perimeter storm drainage is under way for level P1 (west side) and anticipated to continue. Waterproofing of the perimeter west wall is under way and back fill along this section of wall is anticipated soon.

The existing gymnasium is being turned over to the contractor on the first week of March, it is anticipated that the contractor will commence the hoarding and mechanical demolition over the next few weeks internal to the gym.

February 18, 2013 Update

The construction of the new building continues on pace.  The walls of the parkade are going up on a daily basis and we anticipate starting the floors within the month.  Our schedule has the new building completed in the Spring of 2014.

January 24, 2013

The construction of the new building is now well under way and on schedule.  Most of the detailed excavation is finished, many of the major footings have been completed and we will soon be starting on the walls of the parkade.

Going forward, we will be presenting a regular 2 week "whats finished and what is upcoming" in this space as the contruction continues.

We expect to finish the new building in the mid Spring of 2014.  Once we are in the new building, we will start demolishing the original Glenmore wing that was opened in 1955.  We anticipate having most of the work on the site completed for September 2014.  Please remember that this is a major construction site, and our timelines are only our best estimates at this point.

Finally, please remember that the school area is a construction site with lots of extra traffic.  There are bound to be concrete trucks and/or delivery trucks on the roads leading to the schools.  Please drive carefully.  During days when we are in school, there are also significant parking restrictions in place for students, parents, and teachers.  Please obey the signs.

September 26, 2012

The excavation phase of the project was finished August 31. The school now has a building permit from the District of West Vancouver and the consultant team is putting together the final pieces of the tender documents.  We will send the project out for tender during October, and plan on commencing building in late November.

The timeline above is our planned timeline.  We excavated early in order to take advantage of the weather and the students being away for the summer months.

The Morven gymnasium will remain "in action" for students until at least the end of the Christmas break.  We had originally been told that we would have to close the gym by the end of October, but we are now able to confirm the longer use of the gym.

Look for full construction to start in mid to late November.

August 23, 2012

The excavation of the site has gone extremely well over the course of the summer.  We are planning to complete the excavation and work on this phase as of Thursday August 30, 2012.  There may be some clean up work being done on Friday August 31, 2012 but the site work should be finished.  Our excavation team (Matcon) has done an outstanding job this summer managing and completing this project.

July 23, 2012

The excavation continues to move forward as planned.  To this point we have not experienced any troubles or trouble areas.  At the west end of the excavation, we have reached the necessary depth.

Please remember that there are trucks on the road, as well as flag persons.  Please drive carefully and respect the safety of everyone.

July 6, 2012

The excavation is moving along at an acceptable pace.  The view from the live feed (south west camera) shows the excavation, as of today, down to about 15 feet.  The final depth will be around 25 feet in order to accomodate the two levels of underground parking.

We anticipate having the excavation phase of the project completed by the end of August.  The excavation has not found any issues (bedrock etc) that would slow down progress.

The live feed, especially right now from the south west camera gives the best view of the project.

Visitors and staff to the Morven campus are reminded to watch for trucks on the roads, and to be aware of the parking restrictions that we have in place.

The excavation is scheduled to finish at the end of August, and the regular construction of the new building shoud commence around November 1, 2012.  The two monnth delay is needed to complete the pre work that needs to be done to ensure the second phase proceeds in an orderly fashion.  We also wanted to get the excavation phase of the project completed over the summer months while school was not in session.
