To be eligible for School Colours a student must:
- Be at the Morven Campus (grades 8 - 12)
- Be nominated in two consecutive terms in that strand
- Have a good citizenship record
- Have passing grades in every Collingwood requirement
School Colours in Academics are awarded to students with a grade point average of 3.8 or better in his or her top five academic courses, with no marks lower than a B, for two consecutive terms. Nominees must be Meeting (M) work habit expectations in all courses to receive School Colours.
School Colours are presented to recognize sustained and outstanding excellence in achievement, effort, participation and citizenship in the Visual Arts and Performing Arts.
To earn a School Colour in Visual Art a student must achieve: having excelled in a broad range of visual art courses and/or extracurricular activities; a final term mark of 90%, or greater, plus no less than a Fully Meeting (FM) work habit expectations throughout the term in at least one class, but more likely two; a demonstrated superior ability or level of interest noted through Arts Club, Spring Fair, extra-curricular involvement or other unique artistic involvements; a demonstrated good standing in citizenship, studio conduct, and participation; and at least two Grade Colours earned during the terms immediately preceding the term in which the student is nominated for School Colours. All recipients are awarded through nomination by the faculty to the Awards Committee.
To earn a School Colour in a Performing Art a student must achieve: a final term mark of 90%, or greater, plus no less than a Fully Meeting (FM) work habit expectations throughout the term; a demonstrated good standing in citizenship and participation; a demonstrated superior ability or level of interest noted through Festival results / extracurricular involvement / tutoring or other unique artistic involvements; and at least two Grade Colours earned during the terms immediately preceding the term in which the student is nominated for School Colours. All recipients are awarded through nomination by the faculty to the Awards Committee.
School Colours in Athletics are awarded to students who display consistent excellence in achievement, effort and participation in school based Athletics. To receive School Colours a student must make a significant contribution to a Senior team at Collingwood. Students may qualify for School Colours by receiving Grade Colours for the same senior sport on two occasions or three different senior sports in one season. All nominations will be made by Senior coaches.
School Colours for Service are awarded in June to students in grades 8-12 who: have at least a pass on the first two report cards, and then Honours for the final two report cards of the year; have done service in a variety of activities; have done service inside and outside the school; whose service hours are approximately balanced across the year (45 hours between September and January, and 45 hours again, between February and mid-May); and who have exemplary behaviour and attitude during the service.
Subject Awards: Grades 7-12
Top students from each course in grades 7-12 will be recognized for their achievement each June. AP courses and regular classes will be awarded separately. Criteria for determining award winners include:
- Ranking in the course (percentage).
- The student's contribution to the class (effort & participation).
- The self-initiative shown towards the subject and his/her peers.
- Setting a high personal standard of excellence in the course.
- A strong citizenship record at the school.
Nominees will be selected by the course teachers and forwarded to the Head of Department for approval. Final decisions will be made by the Awards Committee.
